In which I am pondering Anais Nin
Recently I ran across the following quote from Anais Nin: We don't see things as they are. We see them as WE are. It's one of those odd little snippets that resonates, doesn't it? I have a pair of sunglasses with pink lenses that I wear when I walk because I love the way they make everything more beautiful. (The expression about rose-colored glasses is NOT a myth.) Everything looks prettier when viewed through a pink filter. The street is still the asphalt; the horse dung on the street is still manure. (Walking in Colonial Williamsburg has its unique challenges.) But it all looks nicer because of what I'm carrying with me. And I'm wondering, how much of my life would look even better if I could figure out a way to peer through the rose glass at everything? Because the only reality that exists for us is what we perceive that reality to be.

That is one of my favorite Nin quotes. She has an amazing way of putting things. I have several volumes of her published diaries. Interesting stuff. This is a beautiful post. Made me smile. Life is about perception, isn't it? :)

This reminds me of the children's church song "Be careful little eyes what you see," because it describes how what we expose ourselves to becomes part of us. You have a wonderful outlook on life because you have chosen to see and experience beautiful things, and therefore you have become a beautiful person on the inside as well as the outside. I'm so glad to have gotten to know you through your books and blogs. I know it's a day early, but, Happy Mother's Day!
