But you really, really should. I haven't dug through her archives yet, and I cannot remember who linked to her, but I am smitten with Sally McGraw's blog. I'm not even going to describe the blog to you. I'm going to make you go read it for yourself. I'll tell you this much--she has embarked upon a spending moratorium. She's giving herself only $10 a week for clothes, shoes, and accessories for a six month period. I am in awe. I'm also completely inspired. I did think of her when I scored FOUR dresses this weekend that are perfect for writing. They are empire-waist, floor-length chiffon or jersey. Empire is always an issue for me unless the straps are lingerie-style, but these are, and with a shrug, they are perfect for hanging around the house. (I confess to a serious oddity--I don't own sweatpants. I would far rather lounge around in a fabulous leopard-print or chocolate brown maxi-dress in a touchable fabric. It's slobby AND chic.) The best part? They were FOUR DOLLARS EACH. Yes, AMERICAN DOLLARS.
Sidenote: if you read Italian, you might enjoy my foray into international blogging at Elisa Rolle's blog. And I can promise you I did NOT write in Italian. Elisa is the superstar who did all the translations!
Whoops! The nail polish fumes were getting to me last night and I referred to Sally's blog as Almost Pretty. It's of course ALREADY Pretty, which makes perfect sense because she is a big believer in celebrating how gorgeous you already are. Thanks, Sally!
4 Dollars each? That would be about £2.50. I hate you. I really do. Life is not fair AT ALL.

Deanna, I'm honored! Thanks so much for recommending Already Pretty to your readers. Oooh, and if any of them are interested in some thrift tips, I wrote an embarrassingly epic post on the topic earlier this week. Anyway, thanks a million, lady! P.S. Almost Pretty is actually a fantastic cosmetics blog ... but mine is titled Already Pretty. ;)

Thanks for the reading suggestion. I just had a quick read and am in awe of the thriftiness!
I bought the December issue of Red Magazine the other day. It's guest edited by none other than the luscious Nigella Lawson, and she's also on the front cover in a gold satin sheath gown. I know Red must be stupidly expensive in the US, but it would be a worthwhile purchase.
Or I might consider posting you my copy when I've finished it :)

Laura, I've been stalking my B&N and they haven't gotten it yet! My English friend Sali always taunts me with the gorgeousness of Red when she knows I haven't seen the new issue. (Y'all know my mad Nigella love!)

Ok you must tell us where you found this writing frocks. I used to only wear skirts and dresses then I came up her to the frozen tundra and it just isn't practical.
Oh and just what type of foot wear do you wear with these fabulous sloppy chic dresses? You know we want every detail :)

AH, I found them at Rue 21. I stopped by to pick up something for my daughter and found a rack of these dresses. The store manager said they arrived too late for summer, but they're fully lined and perfectly fine for around the house as long as I put a little sweater with them. (I'm still looking for a few shrugs, ballet wraps, that sort of thing. And a black sweater coat...I've gotten everything else on my winter list and at hugely good prices, so I'm veeeeery happy.) As far as the dresses being too cold, if it's really chilly, I have footless tights or leg warmers.
For footwear, I confess, I'm a barefoot girl. I only put proper shoes on when I'm leaving my house. I could pretend it's because I'm conscious of germs, but the truth is, I'm lazy. I can't wear socks in the house because of Emma the Yellow Wonder Dog--massive shedding and my socks would look like fuzzy slippers. So I order ballet flats from Capezio and wear those on really cold days. They're almost as comfy as bare feet, they're quiet, and they're leather, so they don't pick up dog hair. If I'm really freezing, I can wear footed tights with them.
